The Trinity Chronicle in November, 1914 announced that a bronze figure representing The Sower had recently been placed on campus as a gift of Mr. James B. Duke. Of all the statuary on campus that of the Sower, observable on the lawn between the entrance to East Campus and the East Duke building, is the only one not depicting a member of the Duke family or an historical figure of the college or university.
