The Department of Natural Sciences is the interdisciplinary home for the biology, chemistry, environmental science, neuroscience, and physics faculty of Pitzer and Scripps Colleges. The department is administered cooperatively and is housed within two buildings, Nucleus East and Nucleus West, located at the intersection of the two colleges. Nucleus East is the original administrative and academic site of the longstanding science programs; Nucleus West is a new 65,000-square-foot addition that features more labs, teaching spaces, and additional resources.
The department offers more than a dozen discrete degree options, including dual-degree programs in partnership with schools of engineering and majors in conjunction with disciplines outside of the sciences.
The department provides comprehensive, interdisciplinary instruction in small class settings and numerous opportunities for students to conduct research. Graduates enter a significant range of careers and enjoy acceptance into prestigious graduate research and health science programs.
