The historic Allen House is the oldest building on the DeLand campus. It was constructed in 1880 by DeLand businessman James F. Allen, one of the earliest settlers in the area. Legend says that he and his wife, Calista Norton Allen, sat on their porch and, over the years, watched the establishment and growth of Stetson University.
Through the decades, Allen House has been home to several academic and administrative departments including public relations and alumni engagement. It currently houses the Office of Human Resources.
In 2008, Allen family descendent Donald Allen Regar presented Stetson University with historic photographs and other memorabilia associated with the house and family. Items in the Regar Collection include 13 letters written by James F. Allen before, during and after he was a prisoner of war in the Civil War, and the Bible he had while a prisoner.
