This earth-science museum is a center for environmental education for Stetson students and the wider community. The museum’s highlight is a collection of more than 15,000 mineral, rock and fossil specimens collected and donated by T.B. and Nellie Gillespie. It is one of the oldest and largest collections of its kind in the southeastern United States and is exhibited throughout the museum in cabinets and interactive displays.
The museum also houses exhibits on native Florida ecosystems and plant landscapes, and a small gift shop. Native Florida flora and a sandhill-ecosystem restoration project are the primary exterior features. Gillespie Museum hosts permanent and changing exhibitions and frequently offers special public programs such as Science Saturdays.
