Built in 1911, Barnwell Chapel is one of three chapels on campus. For a number of years, it was used as both classroom and chapel. After Martha Berry passed away, her body lay in state in Barnwell Chapel from Friday, Feb. 27, to Sunday, March 1, 1942, while staff and students maintained a guard of honor. Currently, services and programs sponsored by Berry's religious life organizations are held in Barnwell Chapel as well as Sunday school, Sunday evening vesper services and summer services of the college chapel congregation.
