Minnesota State University, Mankato's Julia A. Sears Residence Community was completed in 2008, and was the first residence community to offer students a semi-suite room type. The building takes its name from Julia A Sears. Julia Sears (1840-1929) became principal of what was then known as Minnesota State Normal College at Mankato in 1872.

All of the modern semi-suites in this building have two bedrooms and a full, compartmentalized bathroom. Most of the semi-suites house four residents, and some single, two-person semi-suites are available. Centrally located in the heart of campus, Julia Sears houses 608 residents on four floors.
