Sparks Hall Plantings
Ornamental trees and shrubs hardy to northwest Nebraska provide seasonal bloom starting in early March. Cornelian cherry (Cornus mas), blooms first alongside "Jetfire," miniature daffodils planted nearby. Other woody flowering plants that bloom in succession for two to three weeks, depending on variable spring weather, include serviceberry (Amerlanchier, "Autumn Brilliance"), Eastern Redbud (Cersis Canadensis), Crandall's Clove Currant (Ribes odoratum "Crandall"), Ohio Buckeye (Aesculus glabra), Japanese tree lilac (Syringa reticulata ssp. pekinensis "Ivory Silk"), "Diablo" Ninebark (Physocarpus opulifolius "Monlo"), and American smoketree (Cotinus obovatus).
