The Palm Court, often referred to simply as "the Quad," has been the central visual landmark of the DeLand campus since its creation in 1909. Its sabal palm-lined brick walkways link Elizabeth Hall on the west, Sampson Hall and the Hand Art Center to the south, the duPont-Ball Library on the east and the Marshall and Vera Lea Rinker Welcome Center to the north.
Palm Court is crowned by the Art Deco-style Holler Fountain. It was built in 1937 for the Florida Exhibit at the Great Lakes Exposition in Cleveland, and was also featured at the 1939-1940 New York World’s Fair. In 1951, William E. Holler Jr. and Florida Exhibit coordinator Earl Brown, both of DeLand, donated the fountain to Stetson University in memory of William E. Holler Sr. Called an aqualux fountain for its water and light displays, the fountain was restored to its 1930s appearance during a major renovation in 2013.
On any given day, students, mounting hammocks between the trees or spreading blankets on the grass, gather to study or relax in Palm Court while professors often bring classes outside on milder days to take advantage of the weather.
