The heart of campus life, the Carlton Union Building is known to the community as the CUB. It was built in 1957 and named in honor of Stetson University alumnus Doyle Carlton Sr., a former governor of Florida who also served on the university's Board of Trustees.
The CUB houses the Commons, coffee shop, faculty lounge, student government offices and the Hub in the Cub information desk. On the second floor is the Stetson Room, where public lectures and programs frequently take place. The Hat Rack eatery, post office and bookstore are attached to the north side of the building.
In late 2014, renovation and expansion to the CUB began. Renovations were completed in 2018, with the improved building featuring improved parking, 40 percent more space, plus a new roof, plumbing, heating/cooling and lighting and electrical systems.
The second floor houses an expansive student lounge, office space for student clubs and organizations, a multi-purpose room, student media (including a renovated radio station), staff offices and open seating for individuals and groups.
