In 2022, Georgetown named its chapel in Copley Hall in honor of Sr. Thea Bowman, F.S.P.A., a Catholic religious sister, teacher and singer who fought for racial justice and for a more inclusive Catholic Church, during an ecumenical service on campus. The chapel was named the Servant of God Sr. Thea Bowman Chapel of St. William. The term “Servant of God” refers to Sr. Thea’s official designation as a person in the first stage of canonization in the Roman Catholic Church. The Sr. Thea Bowman Chapel is the spiritual home of Georgetown's Protestant Christian community.
