From 1874-1987, this National Historic Landmark was the headquarters of the American Tobacco Company, the world’s largest cigarette manufacturer. Following the most ambitious historic renovation project in North Carolina history, the facility was reborn in 2004 as a lively campus of offices, restaurants, meeting spaces and residential units. With its waterfall and public gathering spots, “American Tobacco” has become of the Triangle’s hottest gathering spots. Duke was a pivotal player in the site’s redevelopment and has relocated seven departments there, including
Office for Information Technology,
Financial Services,
General Counsel
Real Estate,
Duke Divinity School Leadership Education,
DUMAC and
Duke Corporate Education.
