Colloquially known as "The Big Chair," Jake Beckman '04's Adirondack Chair is one of the most recognizable artworks on Swarthmore's campus. As Beckman writes: "I made Adirondack Chair in relative secrecy over the course of a few weeks with friends. We rolled it out to Parrish Beach and carried it onto the grass. It then took on a life all its own. The original chair was made of laminated plywood and lasted until mushrooms began growing out of it in 2008. At that point, I rebuilt the chair out of more durable materials."
